01  About the Studio

What makes Alta Idea Design Studio different from other interior designers in London?

Alta Idea is a full-service interior design and project delivery studio led personally by Julia Baidyk — founder, principal designer, and the single point of accountability on every project. Unlike most interior designers in London who hand clients a set of drawings and step back, Julia designs your home or non-residential space and delivers it in full. She personally manages every contractor, supplier, and specialist involved in the project from the first conversation to the final installation. You work with one person throughout. The design you commission is the space you receive.

How would you describe your design approach?

Client-led, technically rigorous, and built to last. Julia’s starting point is always your life: how you use your home, how you entertain, what matters to you, what has never quite worked before. Every design decision follows from your brief and is informed by over 20 years of practice and a deep knowledge of materials, construction, and bespoke making. The result is an interior that feels entirely your own, not a studio aesthetic you happen to live inside.

Is it worth hiring a luxury interior designer in London?

For a significant residential project in London, yes, consistently and measurably so. A skilled interior designer with project management experience protects your budget from the decisions that cost the most: poor sequencing, wrong specifications, contractor miscommunication, and procurement delays. Julia’s clients typically find that the fee is recovered in savings, in time, and in a result that a self-managed project rarely achieves. The more complex the project, the greater the value of having one experienced person accountable for all of it.

02  Services & Scope

What types of projects do you take on?

Alta Idea works on high-end residential and non-residential projects in London and across the UK and Europe: whole-house refurbishments, prime London apartments, historic apartments in Vienna, country houses and villas, and significant private residences. Julia’s studio also accepts boutique commercial commissions: restaurants, hotels, clinics, and premium offices, where residential-quality design and personal accountability matter. Projects typically begin at £200,000 in construction value. If your project sits below that threshold, Julia will be honest about whether Alta Idea is the right fit and can suggest appropriate alternatives.

What does full-service interior design in London include?

Full-service interior design at Alta Idea covers every stage of the project: space planning, mood boards and 3D visualisations, architecture detailing, design concept and material specification, bespoke furniture and joinery design, contractor tendering and appointment, procurement of all furniture and finishes, project management throughout the build, on-site quality control, and final installation and styling. Julia is supported by an experienced team throughout but leads every stage personally, and all client communication flows directly through her. Nothing is outsourced. Nothing is left for the client to manage.

03  The Process

How early should I involve an interior designer in my project?

As early as possible, ideally before you finalise the property purchase or appoint an architect. The decisions that are most expensive to reverse happen first: ceiling heights, structural openings, the position of services and drainage, lighting infrastructure, and floor finishes. Bringing a designer in at the start means designing what is right. Bringing a designer in after the build is underway means working with what remains.

How do you manage quality control during installation?

Julia and her team attend the site regularly throughout the installation and fit-out stage, not to observe from a distance, but to check details, resolve queries on the spot, and ensure the finish matches the specification. The studio works with contractors it has developed relationships with over many years, which means problems are identified and resolved ASAP.

What happens if unexpected issues arise during construction?

They arise on every project, the question is who manages them. On an Alta Idea project, the team identifies issues as they emerge, assesses the options, and Julia presents you with a clear recommendation where a decision is required. Problems do not become client problems. Unexpected issues never become unexpected costs.

04  Design & Personalisation

How do you ensure the design reflects my lifestyle and personality?

Julia invests significant time at the start of every project in listening. Before any design is proposed, she asks detailed questions about how you live day to day, how you entertain, what has never worked in your previous homes, and what you have always wanted. She reviews references you provide: images, objects, places that mean something, and visits the property before drawing anything. Every decision in the design is built around your personality.

How do you help clients avoid costly mistakes during renovation or furnishing?

Experience is the direct answer. Julia has been practising for over 20 years and has completed projects in London, Vienna, across Germany, and in cities throughout Ukraine and Europe. She has seen exactly where money is misspent: in poor procurement sequencing, wrong material specification, contractor relationships without proper management, and furnishing decisions made without understanding how a space will actually be used. Her role includes protecting your investment from specification choices that affect long-term value, to sequencing decisions that prevent expensive remedial work later.

05  Budget & Fees

How much does a luxury interior designer in London cost?

Alta Idea’s fees are project-based and agreed transparently at the outset, covering all stages: design, procurement, and project management. Full-service interior design in London at this level typically ranges from 10–20% of total project construction value, depending on scope and complexity. Julia provides a clear fee proposal before any engagement begins. There are no hourly rate surprises and no ambiguity about what is included.

How are your fees structured?

Fees are agreed as a fixed project fee at the start of each stage: site visit with measurements, mood boards, 3D design, technical drawings for the builder team and furniture production, and project management. So clients know exactly what they are committing to before work begins. If the scope changes during the project, any fee adjustment is discussed and confirmed in writing before additional work begins.

Can you work within a defined budget?

Yes, and protecting your budget is a core part of the service. Julia works to a client-approved budget from the outset, tracks costs in real time throughout the project, and flags any potential overruns before they occur. Every significant expenditure is pre-approved in writing. No change is actioned without your agreement. No invoice should arrive as a surprise.

06  Working Together

Can you work with clients who are based overseas?

Yes, and this is an area where Alta Idea has genuine and specific experience. Julia has worked with international clients throughout her career, including those relocating to the UK and navigating the British construction and property market for the first time. For overseas clients, Julia manages the project entirely, provides regular structured updates, and organises site visits and key decisions around your schedule. Distance has never reduced the standard of delivery.

What happens in the first meeting?

The first step is a 30-minute discovery call, with no commitment and no fee. Julia uses this time to understand your project, your priorities, and your timeline. It is equally an opportunity for you to ask any questions before deciding on anything. If the project is the right fit for Alta Idea, Julia will outline a proposed approach and follow up in writing with a clear proposal. There is no pressure and no expectation of an immediate decision.
